Police probe fresh cult killings in Lagos communities

The Lagos State Police Command says it has launched an investigation into the deaths of two persons allegedly killed by suspected cultists in separate incidents across the state. The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday while reacting to the recent killings. The victims were reportedly killed in separate cult-related attacks in Sangotedo, Ajah, and Ikotun areas of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro had earlier reported, based on accounts from sources, that the victims were identified as Ola and another man known simply as Chief Priest. Videos obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday showed residents of Governor’s Road trooping out in large numbers on Saturday, dressed in branded T-shirts and carrying banners with anti-cultism messages. Reacting to the incidents, the police spokesperson said, “Two similar incidents were reported. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incidents. No suspect has been arrested.” In recent years, parts of Lagos State have become hotspots for cult-related violence, with several lives lost in recurring clashes. In September 2025, PUNCH Metro reported that more than 10 people were killed in a wave of cult-related attacks that occurred within less than 10 days across some communities in the state.
