BENUE, Nigeria – The Benue State government, on Friday launched a 90-megawatt waste-to-energy plant, signalling a major push towards cleaner power and modern waste management. Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by Deputy Governor Sam Ode, says the facility will convert waste into electricity, bio-fertiliser and recyclable materials while creating over 6,000 jobs. “This is a technology-driven solution that strengthens our energy infrastructure and tackles waste challenges,” Alia says. Developed through a public-private partnership with Sectorlead Ltd., the project positions Benue among few Nigerian states pursuing large-scale waste-to-energy solutions, offering a potential model for others battling sanitation and power deficits.
