LOC inspects facilities ahead 2026 National Para Games

The Local Organizing Committee for the third National Para Games has completed a thorough inspection of venues ahead of the multi-sport event scheduled to run from March 26 to April 3, 2026, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Complex, Abuja, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. According to a statement issued by the NSC on Wednesday, the inspection exercise covered all designated facilities to “assess readiness, identify technical gaps and ensure compliance with required standards for hosting a seamless and inclusive multi-sport event.” Fifteen sports venues across the stadium complex and other locations in the Federal Capital Territory were evaluated, including facilities for Amputee Football, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Canoe, Para Cycling, Para Karate, Para Powerlifting, Para Shooting, Para Soccer, Para Swimming, Para Taekwondo, Para Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Tennis. The inspection report confirmed that most venues were ready and suitable for competition, with a few requiring minor technical adjustments and environmental improvements before the Games commence. The Indoor Basketball Hall, designated for Wheelchair Basketball, was deemed ready, though officials recommended enhancing court markings and lighting. Similarly, the Swimming Pool facility was cleared for use, with suggestions for lane rope adjustments, cleaning of changing rooms, and the provision of canopies and plastic chairs. The Velodrome for Para Karate, Gymnasium Hall for Para Badminton, and Tennis Courts for Wheelchair Tennis were all certified ready. The committee emphasised that “all observations raised during the inspection will be addressed promptly to guarantee a world-class competition environment under the atmosphere of safety, accessibility and fairness.” The third edition of the National Para Games is viewed as a key demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusivity and the development of para sports in Nigeria. With most facilities ready and remaining improvements underway, organisers say the stage is set for another successful edition of the Games. “Ability in disability remains the guiding spirit as Nigeria prepares to welcome athletes and officials from across the country for what promises to be a memorable celebration of resilience, talent and excellence,” the LOC stated.
